Unlocking the Design Secrets of Sabo HQ: An Exclusive Interview with Residence Studio

Q: What inspired the design for Sabo HQ in Brisbane and how did you reflect Thessy and Yiota’s brand?

A: Our inspiration for Sabo HQ stemmed from the allure of Mediterranean style, infused with contemporary elegance and organic textures. It was crucial for the design concept to embody refinement and timelessness while staying true to Sabo’s aesthetic—a blend of sophistication and trendsetting innovation.

Q: How closely did you work with Thessy and Yiota to bring their vision to life?

A: Collaboration was at the core of our process. We embarked on a deeply collaborative journey with Thessy and Yiota, aligning our efforts towards a shared vision of Sabo HQ. Their input was instrumental from the outset, guiding the evolution of the design concept into a remarkable reality.

Q: What were the exciting challenges in designing for Sabo? How did you rise to the occasion?

A: One of the most thrilling challenges was creating spaces that doubled as captivating backdrops for clothing photoshoots. This required meticulous attention to detail, ensuring every corner exuded visual appeal while staying true to Sabo’s brand identity. Embracing the minimalistic approach, we carefully selected finishes and furnishings to make a bold statement, both in person and through the lens.

Q: How does the office layout foster teamwork and productivity?

A: The open-office layout was crafted to foster a culture of collaboration and inclusivity, devoid of hierarchical barriers. By curating designated spaces for both private work and team gatherings, we promoted flexibility and adaptability to diverse work styles. From executive desks to communal meeting areas, every aspect was meticulously designed to inspire creativity, enhance teamwork, and ultimately drive productivity to new heights.

Elevating Comfort and Sustainability: Crafting the Ideal Workspace for Team Sabo

Q: What comfort features did you include for Team Sabo?

A: Our priority was to provide Team Sabo with a comfortable and inspiring workspace. We curated several lounge seating options, ensuring diverse areas and settings for breaks and brainstorming sessions. Recognizing the importance of breaking monotony, each space, from the meeting room to the boardroom and staff lounge, boasts its own unique ambiance while maintaining cohesion.

Furthermore, abundant natural light floods the space, complemented by light-toned finishes. This infusion of light not only enhances aesthetics but also fosters a comfortable atmosphere, boosting serotonin production and promoting overall well-being for the team.

Q: Are there any eco-friendly or sustainable touches in Sabo HQ? How do they add to the vibe?

A: Sustainability was a guiding principle in the design of Sabo HQ. In the main office area, we opted for The Flooring Co cork flooring—an eco-friendly choice known for its renewable, biodegradable properties and excellent acoustic insulation. Supporting local Australian-made suppliers was paramount, reflected in our selection of hard-wearing, locally crafted designer pieces that align with Sabo’s aesthetic while promoting sustainability.

Additionally, we prioritized low VOC specialty wall paint finishes from Porter’s Paints to minimize atmospheric pollution. Their lime wash finish, in particular, adds texture to feature walls without overwhelming other elements, perfectly complementing Sabo HQ’s organic Mediterranean ambiance.

Q: What makes Sabo HQ unique among other offices in Brisbane?

A: Sabo HQ transcends the traditional office setting, offering a space that feels like home. Infused with the essence of Sabo’s timeless and trendsetting fashion, the interiors reflect a unique blend of sophistication and comfort. From eco-conscious design elements to locally sourced furnishings, every aspect of Sabo HQ exudes a distinctive charm that sets it apart, embodying the brand’s ethos and aesthetic in every detail.

Forging Collaborative Paths to Bring Sabo HQ to Life

Q: How did you collaborate with architects, engineers, and others to make the Sabo HQ design a reality?

A: Our collaboration with Esat Design (architects) and Batspac (builders) was integral to translating Thessy & Yiota’s vision, along with Residence Studio’s design ethos, into a tangible reality. Esat Design laid the foundation for our creative endeavors, providing an exceptional base that informed our decisions regarding finishes, fixtures, fittings, and furnishings. Zaheer from Esat Design proved to be a valuable collaborator, always open to dialogue and innovation, while Batspac’s unwavering commitment to excellence ensured seamless execution. Whenever challenges arose, the team proactively presented alternative solutions, ensuring alignment with our original vision. It was a truly collaborative effort, with each member contributing their expertise to bring Sabo HQ to fruition.

Q: How did you ensure the design stays relevant as Sabo evolves?

A: Maintaining relevance amidst evolution was paramount in our design approach. We opted for timeless interiors with a neutral palette, avoiding fleeting trends that could quickly become outdated. By embracing a neutral palette, the space remains adaptable to Sabo’s evolving brand identity. Should there be any changes in branding or aesthetic preferences, a simple update of cushions and decor would suffice to transform the space, ensuring that Sabo HQ continues to reflect the brand’s essence, regardless of its evolution.
